TecTecTec produces some great laser golf rangefinders at reasonable prices, although most of their models can’t quite compete with the leading rangefinders produced by major companies such as Bushnell. However, TecTecTec’s rangefinders do have a reputation for accuracy and ease of use. Compared to higher priced models, the VPRO is pretty basic, but it still performs well on the course and comes with some innovative modes designed to improve performance.
Perfect for beginners and seasoned golfers alike, this handy, intuitive rangefinder is a great buy if you’re looking for a versatile model that’s durable and reliable.
The VPRO500 by TecTecTec is efficient and easy to use. It also offers a one-yard accuracy, which is pretty impressive considering the price.
Overview and Features
This budget-friendly laser rangefinder is built solid. It’s water resistant and provides fast measurements with a range of five hundred and forty yards when in continuous scan mode.
The Pinsensor feature allows the rangefinder to accurately measure overlapping objects, hazards, prisms, and more.
The crystal clear 6x magnification multilayered optics make it easy to read the display is a variety of lighting conditions, however, some golfers stated that the monochrome display can be difficult to read in bright sunlight.
This model comes with a few distinct modes that are used to locate flags. These modes allow you to easily adjust the rangefinder’s performance parameters depending on the environment and weather conditions. To access the mode menu just press the mode button and the menu will provide you with three options.
First Target Priority mode allows the rangefinder to focus solely on the flag, separating objects in the foreground from the background. The Distance Target Priority mode demonstrates how far away other obstacles are. ProScan can determine the distance to other obstacles. Additionally, the auto-target feature works by ignoring signals from surrounding objects around the flag or target, providing a more accurate reading, even in areas on the course where there are plenty of trees and bushes.
If you’ve determined that the course you’re playing on is fairly normal, with no major obstacles, you can simply choose the normal targeting mode, which will allow you to play in typical course and weather conditions.
Combined, these modes provide improved rangefinder accuracy and performance.
Durable Lightweight Design
The rangefinder isn’t waterproof, instead it’s labeled as water resistant, which means it can handle light to moderate rainfall but should never be submerged.
Are you already dealing with golf shoulder pain from hauling around your other golf gear? Then you’ll be happy to learn that this lightweight model weighs in at just seven ounces. Its compact design makes it highly portable and pocket-friendly.
The VPRO’s ergonomic design consists of a durable housing that protects the rangefinder from water, dust, dirt, and debris. The included strap allows you to wear the rangefinder around your neck for faster access.
The model uses a CR2 cell non-rechargeable battery which provides one year of use.
The rangefinder has a reputation for accuracy and has no problem closing in on a pin quickly using the Pinseeker mode. The compact design can make this model difficult to use if you have large hands. Because the display reading has been known to bounce around, using both your hands to steady the display can remedy this issue, but if you have large hands, holding the rangefinder in this manner can prove difficult.
For the price, we were surprised at how fast and accurate the rangefinder is. Toggling through the user menu, firing, and selecting a different mode is fast and simple.
Setting up the rangefinder straight out of the box will take less than five minutes. All in all, this is a very beginner-friendly model.
The slope mode will take into account any hills and dips in the terrain in order to provide a more accurate distance measurement reading.
How Accurate is It?
You’ll be surprised at how accurate and fast this rangefinder really is. The built-in laser can transmit a reading in under ten seconds.
Even in foggy weather conditions, the VPRO is still incredibly accurate and able to slice right through the fog, easily. This is a huge bonus for golfers who love hitting the course first thing in the morning.
Unfortunately, this rangefinder doesn’t come equipped with a feature similar to the popular Jolt alert like the Bushnell Pro x7 golf rangefinder, which vibrates once the user has successfully locked onto a target.
